His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh 10th June 1921 to 9th April 2021

Books of condolence

Dear Town and Parish Councils,

Further to our email on Friday, the Government has provided further direction on books of condolence to commemorate His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

In accordance with COVID restrictions, GOV.UK states that physical books of condolence should not be on display.

There will be no physical books of condolence at any Royal Residence, UK Government or Devolved Administration buildings. Members of the public will be invited to contribute to a national online book of condolence found on the Royal website.

Therefore could we request that any books of condolence are removed and residents are pointed towards either the Wiltshire Council online book of condolence or the Royal book of condolence.

This is an unfortunate circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic and we recognise that this will be difficult for residents without internet access. Computers are available in our libraries and residents can pre-book one 45-minute session per day. They can also bring someone to support them by letting staff know in advance. Find out more on our website.

There are also other ways people can consider to mark the Duke’s passing, such as giving to a charity of their choosing or one of the charities or organisations The Duke of Edinburgh supported in his public duties.

Thank you for your continued support.

Wiltshire NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme

The Wiltshire Diabetes Prevention programme is a free service for people who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The Diabetes Prevention Programme is a behaviour change programme where people learn about, diet, physical activity and strategies to improve their overall health, all aimed at reducing their risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.

Normally, people access the programme through their GP however, due to the pandemic  and the subsequent pressure that our GP practices are facing, for a limited time there is a self-referral option via the Diabetes UK ‘Know Your Risk Score’ – a check list of questions that can determine a person’s risk factors – This has also enabled the programme to become more accessible to people within the area.

The risk tool can be accessed via the link below:

https://riskscore.diabetes.org.uk/start

More information about the programme can be found at https://preventing-diabetes.co.uk/bath-north-east-somerset-swindon-wiltshire/

High Street Traffic Survey Results

Traffic Survey Results High Street; results have been received regarding the traffic survey carried out for the High Street 2nd November 2020 .

The results show that the speeds recorded warrant consideration for Community Speed Watch to be set up.

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 all Speed Watch activity is on hold and so we cannot find out where the monitoring points will be.  Once known and training available we will be calling for volunteers to be trained to use the speed monitoring “guns” and work out rotas etc.  Once we have an active Speed Watch this ensures Police periodic enforcement and issuing of warning letters to speeders and subsequent fines.  Please watch the website for more news.

Attached here are the traffic survey results:

Wiltshire Local Plan Review Consultation

The consultation into the Wiltshire Local Plan review and separately the Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan, will run from Wednesday 13th January 2021 until 11.59 pm on Tuesday 9 March 2021.

Wiltshire Council has to allocate sufficient land to satisfy housing and employment needs up to 2036, and is seeking the views of local communities and stakeholders to see if the suggested distribution of numbers across the county is correct, and which of the proposed sites are most suitable.

Feedback during this review consultation will help to shape the draft Local Plan, which will be finalised later in 2021. It will then be used to guide decisions on whether future planning applications for housing, infrastructure and land for employment can be granted.

As COVID restrictions mean that face-to-face events will not be possible during this review, the council is holding a series of online events for people to find out more about the Local Plan. Each event relates to a particular settlement, and there are also two events for rural areas, which include all other Wiltshire villages and settlements that are not covered in the other 15 events.

The online events, which will be held from 7pm-8pm on the dates shown are as follows:

  • Planning for Calne, Monday 18 January
  • Planning for Corsham, Tuesday 19 January
  • Planning for Royal Wootton Bassett, Tuesday 19 January
  • Planning for Chippenham, Wednesday 20 January
